While VR headsets are not cheap by any stretch of the imagination, more and more people have taken the plunge and given virtual reality gaming a try. One of the most fascinating things about VR gaming is that it is a surprisingly old concept — with attempts at VR gaming coming out as early as the 90s. It is considered a “new old” style that was much too advanced for its time, but is finally given the royal treatment it deserves.

As if that was not enough, VR continues to make waves in the gaming industry as it tries to come up with more and more immersive experiences for gamers everywhere. For those who are willing to give VR gaming a shot — as well as those who are already avid VR gamers — here are some of the top VR games of 2020!

Half-Life: Alyx

One of the more surprising games on this list, Half-Life is a game that is infamous for making players wait a very long time for its latest installment. While there are some that still wait for Half-Life 2: Episode 3 (or even Half-Life 3), Alyx is an entirely VR experience that strives to be a full-fledged game in an age where most games in VR are generally short experiences.

It is undoubtedly one of the best VR games to ever be released, and it is a must-have for any fan of virtual reality gaming.

Lone Echo

Another game attempting to be a full AAA experience, Lone Echo puts you in the capable hands of an AI named Jack, as you work with your captain to unravel (and survive) the game’s mysterious plot. The game takes place near Saturn, and is undoubtedly filled to the brim with impressive and immersive graphics. Half-Life: Alyx and Lone Echo are perfect examples of the direction that VR gaming is slowly but surely taking.

No Man’s Sky

Those who have followed the rather turbulent game since its launch in 2016 will know that while it had a miserable start, the game developers worked tirelessly to turn No Man’s Sky into an experience worth having. With the ability to explore a mind-boggling number of planets and star systems, the new VR system makes No Man’s Sky one of the top VR games in 2020.

Subnautica

In a similar vein to No Man’s Sky (but underwater), Subnautica is another exploration game where you attempt to survive a beautiful — but at times inhospitable — environment. The vast ocean landscape is at times serene and at times filled with danger, and it is up to you to explore, build, and survive the many secrets of Subnautica.

Aside from the games above, there are some VR experiences that try to translate a real-world sport as much as it possibly can, such as The Climb. Virtual reality gaming looks to have a limitless amount of potential, and only time will tell just how far it goes!
