3 Things Gamers Would Love About CES 2018
CES isn’t just about technology that’s used for work, it has also been about technology that’s used to play with. Gamers may have the Tokyo Game Show and E3 this year, but they’ll also find a place here in CES. There are tons of info gamers would love to hear, and new devices that they would love to play. So here are a few things that people found in CES that will make gamers drool:
Gaming PCs
CES 2018 is teeming with numerous new PCs, laptops, and other electronic devices. And since the “PC Master Race” of gaming sole plays on the PC, you’ll find PCs and PC parts that are aimed towards gamers as well. A good example of such is Zotac’s newest gaming PC, the Mek 1. The Mek 1 is a small, portable PC that runs with an Intel Core i7 and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 Ti. It also comes equipped with 1TB storage, a 240 GB solid state boot drive, and a separate compartment for the graphics card. If you want to replace the graphics card with something better, you may want to replace the power supply as well. They also release a bigger version of their Magnus this year.
Dell’s also refreshing their Inspiron budget gaming PC this year by making it VR-ready, while still maintaining to be cheap (with the prices starting at around $800 but it could go higher if you choose to get one with a higher-tier CPU or graphics card. It doesn’t do much to impress though as it starts with a Core i3 as part of the basic deal.
Razer Revealing The Concept Partner to The Phone
Razer released the Razer Phone last year, and it blew people’s mind off. This year they decided to put a “part two” and blow everyone’s mind into the atmosphere. This year, they brought to CES their Project Linda. This isn’t an ordinary laptop, this is an accessory to the Razer Phone.
That’s right: the laptop is an accessory and the phone plays the part of the laptop’s CPU, trackpad, and secondary screen. The Razer phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 CPU. The whole laptop is 13-inch, weighing only 3lbs. along with the phone. According to Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder and CEO, it’s aim is in combining the best of both worlds. It brings a physical keyboard and a larger screen to the Android environment, thus it enhances one’s experience for gaming and productivity.
The laptop accessory as an additional 53.6 Wh battery and 200GB storage to complement the Razer phone’s already impressive specs. The display of the laptop has the same impressive 120 Hz refresh rate as the phone. Also with the laptop is its own webcam, USB ports, and an audio jack. As impressive as it sounds, the laptop is still a concept model and there’s no telling when Razer might be able to turn this into a commercial product.
Razer also brought to CES its new Mamba HyperFlux gaming mouse along with the new Firefly HyperFlux mousemat. The gimmick of the two is that the wireless mouse pulls its power from the mouse mat the same way wireless charging works. The mouse mat charges the mouse by creating a magnetic field. This transfers the power directly to the mouse rather than charging a battery inside. This makes the mouse a lot lighter than a wireless mouse that contains a battery. The mouse could also function as a wired mouse thanks to an included micro-USB plug. Razer also released three speaker sets in CES: the Nommo, and the Nommo Pro and Chroma. The difference between all three is that Pro is THX certified while Chroma has Razer’s Chroma lighting system.
And There’s More
There’s definitely more for PC gamers as the show continues until the 12th, especially with the abundance of VR systems and gaming PCs, and the latest monitors equipped with true 4k resolution and other gimmicks. We still got Sony, Samsung, and a whole lot of others to check out.
